In 1962 Ugo, Bice, and Maria Letizia DiMare sailed from Minturno, Italy to America on the Christopher Columbus, bringing their family and a passion for baking. Ugo began his career at Egidio Pastry Shop on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, then worked at pastry shops across the New York area. In 1965 their daughter Sabrina was born. Fourteen years after arriving, on May 8, 1976, he opened DiMare Pastry Shop in Riverside, Connecticut—with Bice and their daughters by his side.
Maria and Sabrina both attended the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Maria went on to Manhattan College for counseling psychology; Sabrina studied health education. As their own families grew, Maria and Sabrina discovered how much they loved both their relatives and the bakery—and they joined the business full time.
With Maria and Sabrina fully involved, the family expanded again: on March 3, 1997 they opened DiMare Pastry Shop and Café in Stamford, Connecticut—bringing the same care and quality to a second location.
Today the story continues. Brittany has joined the family business with fresh ideas alongside Ugo, Bice, Maria, Sabrina, and the rest of the DiMare family—still baking every day and sharing the joy with everyone who walks through the door.
